ASM: The rugby club Clermont-Ferrand
Originally the rugby club has strong links with Michelin, the three letters "ASM" meaning “Association Sportive Michelin”, a club whose purpose was to distract the employees of the Manufacture of tyres.
Since that date, the ASM has always been among the best rugby clubs in France. The 2006-2007 season has confirmed its position in the Top 14, and in five years, the ASM Clermont Auvergne played five semi-finals and four finals of the Top 14.
Clermont and Michelin are two closely related names. Michelin is the only company listed on the CAC 40 with headquarters outside Paris. Although the weight of this historic industry in Clermont-Ferrand has decreased, its mark on the city remains strong. Clermont is also an important administrative center and a large academic center. The city has also benefited from the decentralization of government services. Major projects including the commissioning of the tramway project have positioned the city in the club of big metropolitan areas.
