You’ll become crazy about this town!

From operatta and pétanque to Marseille soap, Pastis and the Marcel Pagnol trilogy, all these clichés account for the reputation of this town. And do not worry if you feel like a nap in the Calanques…this is also a tradition in Marseille.

Olympique de Marseille, more commonly known as OM, is the legendary football club of the city, winner of numerous titles including 9 French Championships, 10 French Cups, 3 League Cups, 2 “Trophée des Champions” (Community Shield) and 1 UEFA Champions League. It is the club with the most titles and the most popular in the country.

The club has been playing in the famous Velodrome stadium since 1937 but, in June 2014, the inhabitants of Marseille will celebrate the opening of a new stadium.

In 1996, the French State and the city of Marseille launched the «EuroMéditerranée» project. It is the most important construction and economic development project since the construction of the Défense business centre in Paris.

The French State, the city of Marseille, the Provence Alpes Côte d’Azur Region, the Bouches-du-Rhône Department and the Urban Community joined forces to create a European pole to promote and enhance trade.

The construction is planned over the next twenty years and we can already see the first results of this project.

In 2008, Marseille was designated European capital for culture for 2013.With over 400 events, the programme will be threefold: « Marseille-Provence, welcomes the world », « Marseille-Provence, in the open air », « Marseille-Provence, of a thousand faces ».
